In a landmark display of solidarity, celebration, and progress, more than 200,000 people flooded the streets of Bangkok on Sunday, June 1, for the 2025 Bangkok Pride Parade—marking the city’s biggest LGBTQ+ event to date and one of the largest in Asia.

The parade, themed “Born This Way”, marched from the National Stadium to Ratchaprasong Intersection, transforming central Bangkok into a wave of color, music, and pride. This year’s Pride was especially significant: it was the first held since Thailand passed the Marriage Equality Act in January 2025, making it the first Southeast Asian country to legalize same-sex marriage.

According to The Pattaya News, the event brought together activists, artists, allies, and families in a spirited celebration of identity and inclusion. The march featured a stunning 200-meter-long rainbow and identity flag, symbolizing Thailand’s growing recognition of gender diversity and LGBTQ+ rights.

Among the most symbolic moments was the attendance of Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who walked alongside participants, showing clear support from the highest levels of government. Her presence was seen as a bold gesture of political will, underlining the administration’s commitment to equality.

“This is not just a celebration,” said one participant. “It’s a sign that change is real, and that our voices are finally being heard in Thailand.”

The parade capped off the Bangkok Pride Festival, which ran from May 30 to June 1. Highlights included:

  • The Bangkok Pride Forum, where advocates and policymakers discussed LGBTQ+ health, education, and legal rights.

  • The inaugural Bangkok Pride Awards, honoring individuals and organizations championing LGBTQ+ representation and empowerment across 11 categories.

  • The Siam Center Galaxy of Love, an immersive installation combining art and inclusivity.

According to The Unstumbled, the entire weekend was filled with performances, speeches, and cultural showcases, including drag shows, concerts, and dance parties across the city.

The significance of this year’s Pride cannot be overstated. The recently enacted Marriage Equality Act gives same-sex couples the right to marry and adopt children, positioning Thailand as a progressive force in Asia. Economists project that marriage equality could boost tourism by over 4 million visitors annually and contribute 0.3% to the GDP, creating over 150,000 full-time jobs.

Bangkok Pride 2025 wasn’t just a party—it was a statement. A celebration of identity, resilience, and the power of visibility. As Pride Month continues, the momentum built from this historic weekend is expected to fuel ongoing conversations and advocacy.
