Delivery Hero SE, the German multinational behind the Foodpanda brand, has officially announced it will cease operations in Thailand by May 23, 2025. The decision is part of the company’s broader strategy to optimize its portfolio and concentrate on markets with higher growth potential.
Despite the exit, Delivery Hero’s regional office in Thailand will remain operational to support its Asia-Pacific operations in areas such as marketing and human resources.

Fierce Competition in Thailand’s Delivery Market
Foodpanda has faced increasing competition in Thailand’s saturated food delivery space. According to industry estimates, the platform holds under 15% market share, trailing behind Lineman Wongnai and GrabFood, which lead the sector with roughly 44% and 39.4%, respectively.
Thailand’s food delivery sector, estimated to be worth around 86 billion baht annually, remains a challenging environment for profitability. While GrabFood is currently the only major provider reportedly operating at a profit, Foodpanda reported losses of approximately 3.6 billion baht in 2022 and 596 million baht in 2023 — totaling around 4.2 billion baht across both years.

Unsuccessful Sale Talks
In 2024, Delivery Hero explored options to sell parts of its Southeast Asian operations, including the Thai arm of Foodpanda. Negotiations were held with several parties, including Grab and China’s Meituan, but the discussions did not result in a finalized deal.
Transition and Acknowledgement
Delivery Hero stated it is working to ensure a smooth transition and will support affected employees, restaurant partners, and delivery riders during the wind-down period. The company also expressed gratitude to its Thai community for their support over the years.
