Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited received the BT Awards – Best Brand for a Better Tomorrow for its “Fry to Fly” (Tod Mai Ting) initiative. The award, presented at The 1st BT Awards at True Digital Park, recognises organisations committed to environmental sustainability.
The project tackles the improper disposal of used cooking oil by converting waste oil into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Bangchak has produced biodiesel from used oil for nearly 20 years, and this initiative has now expanded into SAF production under BSGF Company Limited.
Bangchak service stations collect household cooking oil, while the company works with restaurants and businesses to gather more supplies. The Bangchak Phra Khanong Refinery processes the oil and is set to become Thailand’s first standalone SAF facility in the second quarter of this year. Once operational, it will produce millions of litres per day.
The project aligns with the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Model, offering multiple benefits:
- Carbon emissions from aviation could drop by 80% compared to traditional jet fuel.
- Households and businesses earn extra income by selling used oil.
- Environmental waste is reduced, and public health improves as reused cooking oil decreases.
Bangchak has teamed up with the Bai Mai Pun Suk Foundation to introduce “Fry to Fly Stations” in schools. This initiative educates students on proper waste management and allows them to contribute to SAF production by collecting used oil from their homes.
The company promotes a “No Refry” practice for better health and encourages the public to sell used oil at 297 Bangchak stations across 77 provinces.
