Thailand will begin selling travel vouchers for 100 baht each to Thai citizens and foreigners living in the country on December 15, as the government tries to get more people traveling on weekdays and spread tourism income beyond the busy holiday periods. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) will sell the vouchers online in eight rounds, all held on Tuesdays, through February 9, 2027. Buyers will only be able to use them for travel or services from Monday to Thursday, according to several news sources.
Deputy government spokeswoman Lalida Persvivatana outlined the plan on Sunday, November 1. The campaign is being promoted under the name “100 Baht Travel Across Thailand.”
The program has two parts. Participating businesses will offer their own discounts and special privileges on tourism products and services. Alongside those offers, TAT will run an online sale called “Shock Deals,” where the 100 baht vouchers will be available.
Officials have been careful to explain what that price means. Lalida said the 100 baht figure applies only to vouchers sold through Shock Deals. It doesn’t mean every participating hotel, restaurant or attraction will charge 100 baht, and the program won’t hand out any cash.
Because the sales happen on Tuesdays and the vouchers can only be used early in the week, the dates people buy and the dates they travel will be different. Buyers are being urged to check which services a voucher covers, when it can be used and any extra conditions set by individual businesses before they pay.
TAT governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool said the agency is bringing together tourism products and services from partners nationwide for the campaign. More than 170 representatives from government agencies, trade associations and private companies joined a meeting to prepare it. They span five categories: accommodation, restaurants, activities and attractions, health and beauty, and other services linked to tourism.
Businesses that want to take part can get more information through TAT’s LINE Official Account, @weekday100.
The weekday focus is deliberate. TAT wants to shift some trips away from holidays, bring customers to tourism businesses during quieter periods and create a steadier flow of income for destinations, communities and local economies across the country. Thapanee said the idea is that Thailand can be explored on any of the year’s 365 days, with offers designed to make weekday travel more attractive.
Lalida said the program isn’t just about offering low prices. It’s meant to produce real trips and real spending in local areas. Reports in Thai media said the government especially hopes to help destinations with strong potential that still see visitors crowd in only on holidays. The scheme is also meant to support smaller operators, including restaurants, community shops and local transport services, during slow stretches.
The campaign comes during a difficult year for international tourism. Thailand welcomed 24.42 million foreign visitors between January 1 and October 17, down 4.12% from the same period last year, according to preliminary figures from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. Those visitors spent about 1.19 trillion baht, and China remained the largest source market with more than 4.14 million arrivals. Weekly numbers have shown slight improvement, with 487,410 arrivals recorded from October 11 to 17, up 0.83% from the week before.
Opening the vouchers to foreign residents, and not only Thai nationals, widens the pool of potential buyers at a time when international arrivals are running below last year’s level.
Several practical details are still missing. TAT hasn’t yet released full instructions for buying vouchers or joining the scheme, and the agency says more information will be announced through its official channels.
With the first Shock Deals round about six weeks away, the campaign’s basic shape is now clear. Vouchers will sell for 100 baht on Tuesdays from December 15 to February 9, they’ll be valid only for Monday to Thursday trips, and they’ll be open to both Thais and foreign residents. Anyone hoping to take part will need to watch TAT’s official channels in the coming weeks for the buying rules before the first sale opens.
