Strengthening Thailand’s Global Reputation as an LGBTQ+ Travel Hub
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) hosted the Amazing Thailand Out There event in Bangkok, aiming to enhance Thailand’s appeal as a leading LGBTQ+ travel destination. Marriott Thailand partnered in the effort, reinforcing the nation’s reputation for hospitality, cultural richness, and inclusivity.
Taking place shortly after Thailand enacted the Equal Marriage Act in January 2025, the initiative comes at a crucial moment. With the LGBTQ+ travel sector projected to generate $1.5 billion in global spending by the end of the year, Thailand ranks fifth in tourism impact behind the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Italy.
TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool highlighted the event’s importance, noting that strategies were refined through insights from LGBTQ+ Focus Group discussions held in Phuket, Bangkok, and Ko Samui last year. These discussions helped shape policies that better serve LGBTQ+ travellers while supporting Thai businesses.
The event featured three key activities: a travel trade meet, an influencer gathering, and a cultural celebration.
Expanding LGBTQ+ Tourism Networks
The Thailand Out There: Amazing Thailand LGBTQ+ Travel Trade Meet 2025 connected 20 Thai tourism businesses with international buyers, fostering industry partnerships and knowledge sharing. Eighteen travel agents focused on the LGBTQ+ market from the United States, Canada, and Brazil attended. Many of them embarked on week-long familiarisation trips to explore Thailand’s diverse tourism offerings.
Siripakorn Cheawsamoot, TAT Deputy Governor for International Marketing, highlighted Thailand’s strong position in LGBTQ+ tourism, stressing the importance of collaboration in strengthening global partnerships.
Marriott International also played a key role, with Brad Edman, Market Vice President for Thailand, Cambodia, and Myanmar, stating that W Hotels actively supports inclusivity by providing a platform for underrepresented voices and celebrating diversity in travel.
LGBTQ+ Influencers Highlight Thailand’s Inclusivity
The Meet The LGBTQ+ Influencers session brought together six LGBTQ+ influencer couples from the United States, Canada, Brazil, South Africa, and Australia, along with a well-known Australian TikToker based in Thailand.
Thai actors Apiwat “Porsch” Apiwatsayree and Sappanyoo “Arm” Panatkool, who recently married, also participated, strengthening Thailand’s image as a welcoming travel destination.
The six couples began tailored journeys across Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi, Surat Thani (including Ko Samui), and Chiang Mai, showcasing Thailand’s vibrant tourism scene.
Cultural Night Showcases Thailand’s LGBTQ+ Community
The day concluded with the Amazing Thailand Out There Night, a cultural showcase featuring a drag performance, live music, and a DJ set.
TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool highlighted Thailand’s commitment to LGBTQ+ travellers, stating that its welcoming environment, rich traditions, and open-minded culture make it a top global destination for the LGBTQ+ community.
