Cambodia Pageant Speech Ignites Thailand–Cambodia Clash Online

by ZOSMA

A beauty pageant in Phnom Penh became a political flashpoint after Miss Teen Cambodia contestant Chouri Laorhours delivered an emotional on-stage speech accusing Thailand of launching war against Cambodia. The speech was published on the pageant’s official TikTok account on November 17, 2025.

In the video, Laorhours stood holding the Cambodian flag, broke into tears, and declared that Thailand had “started the war.” She demanded the return of 18 Cambodian soldiers who she said were being held across the border. She then switched to English and insisted that Cambodia never wanted conflict, calling for peace, safety, and a future without fear for people on both sides.

Her remarks come during an active period of military tension between the two countries. Border clashes have occurred, diplomatic pressure has intensified, and residents living near the frontier have faced real danger and displacement in recent months. Laorhours also referenced the incident in Prey Chan village, where Cambodian authorities said Thai troops violated a peace agreement and opened fire on civilians. Those claims remain part of the ongoing dispute between the two governments.

Laorhours was crowned the winner of the pageant shortly after delivering her speech, a sequence that fueled nationwide debate. Some praised her for voicing public frustration, while others questioned whether the moment was coordinated or politically driven.

Pageant organizers have not issued any comment, and neither government has responded publicly. Still, the video spread rapidly across social media in both countries, turning a teen beauty contest into a symbolic, and highly emotional, chapter in the Thailand–Cambodia border crisis.
