Mai Khao Beach has always been one of Phuket’s most important coastal areas. It is home to hotels, local communities, natural habitats, and a coastline that carries real value for both residents and visitors.
But protecting a beach like Mai Khao takes more than occasional cleanups. It takes coordination, consistency, and people willing to work together.
That is where the Mai Khao As One Alliance comes in.
The alliance officially launched on June 25, 2026, bringing together more than 100 participants from government agencies, private businesses, hotels, and local communities.
The event marked a clear step forward for Mai Khao. It was not just a gathering of partners for a photo opportunity. It was the formal launch of a long-term effort to protect and restore the coastal ecosystem of Mai Khao Beach.
The alliance is operated by Sustainable Maikhao Foundation, which works on long-term coastal waste management, recycling, upcycling, eco-education, and community-led sustainability.
Its work is practical and direct. Through the Mai Khao As One Alliance, the foundation supports a dedicated three-person local field team that collects and sorts marine debris washed ashore along nearly five kilometers of public beach.
That matters because marine waste is not just an eyesore. It affects wildlife, the local environment, tourism, and the communities that depend on a healthy coastline.
The project brings together 12 leading hotels in the Mai Khao area, along with government and environmental partners. It shows what can happen when the private sector, public sector, and local community work under one shared goal instead of acting separately.
The results from the pilot project already show why this kind of structure matters.
In 2025, the alliance carried out continuous beach cleaning activities during the monsoon season from July to November. Over five months, more than 10 tons of waste were collected, including more than 3,700 kilograms of recyclable waste and more than 6,600 kilograms of landfill waste.
More than 1,000 people also took part, including volunteers, schools, businesses, and community groups.
That is the bigger story here.
This is not only about picking up waste after it arrives. It is about building a system that reduces waste at the source, improves recycling, supports proper disposal, and helps people understand how everyday choices affect the ocean.
For 2026, the alliance is focused on expanding its network, improving coastal waste management through innovation and data, reducing marine debris on Mai Khao Beach, and supporting eco-tourism and community projects alongside environmental protection.
ZOSMA News is a proud media partner of Sustainable Maikhao Foundation, supporting its work to protect Phuket’s coastline and strengthen community-led sustainability.
For ZOSMA News, this partnership reflects the kind of story that deserves more attention: local action, measurable impact, and people working together to solve a real environmental problem.
Individuals, schools, companies, hotels, restaurants, and CSR teams can also get involved.
Beach cleaning activities take place from Monday to Saturday in Mai Khao. Participants are encouraged to contact the foundation first to arrange the meeting point, timing, and activity details.

Mai Khao As One is more than a campaign name. It is a reminder that protecting a coastline works best when the whole community moves together.
