Marriott International saw strong expansion in 2024, signing 109 agreements across 11 APEC markets, adding over 21,000 rooms.
Marriott International announced on February 7 its significant growth in the Asia Pacific excluding China (APEC) region, securing 109 deals that contributed 21,439 rooms to its pipeline. By the end of the year, the company had a total of 77,532 rooms in development. Marriott is expanding in multiple segments, including luxury and midscale, strengthening its leadership in the region’s hospitality sector.
Rajeev Menon, President of APEC for Marriott International, highlighted 2024 as a record year marked by strategic growth and new brand entries. He emphasized APEC’s importance in Marriott’s long-term expansion strategy as it adapts to evolving travel trends.
Rapid Growth Across Segments
Marriott’s 2024 signings brought its regional pipeline to 363 properties with 77,532 rooms, reflecting a 12% increase from the previous year. India, Japan, and Indonesia accounted for 72% of these deals.
Luxury remains a priority, with 19% of the signed agreements focusing on high-end accommodations. Over 20 deals, totaling 4,600 rooms, were secured across six luxury brands. Upcoming openings include EDITION in Jakarta and Mumbai, The Ritz-Carlton in Jaipur and Udaipur, and Singapore’s second W Hotels location.
Conversions accounted for 36% of the new signings, playing a crucial role in Marriott’s expansion. The company also entered the midscale market in Japan with Four Points Flex by Sheraton, converting 14 properties across 10 cities through a partnership with KKR. The first property, Four Points Flex by Sheraton Osaka Umeda, opened in November 2024, marking Marriott’s 100th hotel in Japan.
Shawn Hill, Chief Development Officer for APEC, reaffirmed Marriott’s commitment to expanding its brand offerings and entering new markets. He stressed the importance of delivering value to investors while adapting to changing travel demands.
New Markets and Brand Launches
In 2024, Marriott expanded its presence with new openings in emerging destinations. The brand entered Papua New Guinea with the launch of Marriott Executive Apartments Port Moresby, bringing its operational footprint to 22 APEC markets.
Moxy Hotels also continued its expansion, debuting in India, Malaysia, and Thailand. Openings included Moxy Bengaluru Prestige Tech Cloud, Moxy Putrajaya, and Moxy Bangkok Ratchaprasong, catering to travelers seeking stylish and vibrant stays.

- 600th property in APEC – Adelaide Marriott Hotel, Australia
- 150th property in India – Katra Marriott Resort & Spa
- 50th property in Malaysia – Penang Marriott Complex
- 100th property in Japan – Four Points Flex by Sheraton Osaka Umeda
By the end of 2024, Marriott operated 635 properties across 25 brands in 22 APEC countries, reinforcing its industry leadership. The company’s expanding portfolio continues to attract developers and investors seeking strong hospitality opportunities.
