Bangkok Targets Innovative Solutions to Reduce Air Pollution

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is intensifying its efforts to tackle the city’s persistent air pollution, which is expected to remain high through next month.

Governor Chadchart Sittipunt announced on Saturday that discussions held at the Hua Hin Royal Rainmaking Centre on January 3 focused on using atmospheric openings to disperse harmful dust particles. The initiative will rely on scientific methods and involve experts from the centre, with PTT Plc providing 300 tonnes of dry ice for the process.

For the first time, the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand has permitted royal rainmaking aircraft to operate over inner Bangkok. This was previously restricted due to conflicts with flight paths for Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi airports.

Recent PM2.5 dust levels in Bangkok averaged 42.9 micrograms per cubic meter, placing air quality in the orange zone, which signals health risks.
